Thom the World Poet - 'Life or Death?'

Life or Death?

is incremental-how many MacDonalds hamburgers
wrapped in trash can you eat?
TACO BELL and WENDYS and the COLONEL
all have a thing going - pushing salt and sugar fried
Convenience is cancers - hyper the mart
SUVs kill - they guzzle, slurp and fart
We know what we do not want -
24 hour surveillance cameras in lonely Malls
where lost boys range in gangs because they are bored
Ritalin children - ferals on Coke
Hyped up on junk - faster than hope
They taste despair in every TO GO item-
like the shadows of Democracy
made into advertising slogans
Cardboard smiling politicians lying
and children dying in foreign lands
We do not know what we want-clean air
clear water, real food and trust
Between us -runes are cast each day
in choices made - and the price
still to pay.
